“Bongbong: We could have been a Singapore”

I would not try to justify the statement of Sen. Marcos, he is in the best position to defend his thesis.

Mine would be putting and looking at it objectively. I would like to ask; what was our economic growth before the snap election [not after], the parameters used to measure it? And considering the parameters used then, what is our economic growth today?

Then we could fairly project where we should have been now, if FM was allowed to serve his remaining term.

When we compare the leadership style of two persons, we have take into consideration the health and condition of their respective organization. Is there a common denominator that would justify unbiased comparison?

During the Marcos regime he had to face and solve the following:

  1. Slow economic growth;
  2. Undisciplined populace with crab mentality;
  3. Moro separatist movement that wanted to have their own Bangsa Moro Republic by separating Mindanao from the Philippines;
  4. Communist insurgents who sowed unrest and violently pursue the toppling of the government to implement communism in the Philippines; and
  5. Politicians who are hungry for power.

When Singapore was expelled from Malaysia and Lee Kwan Yu tearfully led his country, was he confronted with the same problems?

@Ara May Sanchez: Thank you for the info, Ms. Sanches. Unfortunately I am not an Accountant or a CPA. This is the reason why I ask for somebody to give us information on concrete figures of our projected economic growth/decline because I want to base my comment and/or analysis [economic growth] of the issues from scientific figures. From those figures we could see the trend of our economic growth/decline up until 1992 [the end of FM’s term] and compare it with the actual growth for that year.

If the projected growth is less than the actual, then we can definitely say “you are wrong in your assumption Sen. Marcos, the figures show that at the end of FM’s term, we are still wallowing in quagmire of economic stagnation and in no way comparable with Singapore.”
